Tung-Sol EL84 / 6BQ5
The EL84 developed in the Philips Physics Laboratory in Eindhoven (NatLab) and introduced in 1953 in Mullard radios. The EL84 was introduced as a cost effective alternative to the EL34 especially when it was used in so-called 'Table-top' radios where driver tubes could be omitted in these designs due to the easy control of the EL84. Now the EL84 is used in old VOX, Fender, Mesa Boogie guitar amplifiers and as a new application in headphone amplifiers.

Tung-Sol
Tung-Sol Lamp Works was founded in 1907 in Newark, NJ USA. The name Tung-Sol is a contraction of Tungsten or tungsten the element where the filaments in tubes and light bulbs are made and Sol what in Latin means sun. Advertising for Tung-Sol car bulbs Since the 1920s, Tung-Sol also started producing other electronic products, including electron tubes. Tung-Sol strived for perfection of its products by means of a manufacturing process under laboratory standards and strict quality control. The best known tube from Tung-Sol is the 6550 marketed in 1955 in response to the Genalex / Marconi KT88. The 6550 is a so-called 'beam tetrode' and can be found in amplifiers with a lot of power, for example in the Ampeq SVT bass amplifiers and Marshalls 50 and 100 Watt guitar amplifiers for the American market.

Matched tubes 
This set of tubes is matched. This means that the measured values of the tubes fall within the same range and thus perform equally.
This is important for two reasons:
1. To obtain the same gain factor per tube.
2. For the same amount of quiescent current per tube.
The first requirement speaks for itself and the second requirement prevents the one tube where a higher quiescent current or bias is needed to make it work in the linear region will also be worn out earlier. Both new tubes and our NOS tubes can be ordered separately.
